Happy Vacation!

We had a great day before vacation! We talked about our new worry eater, Flamm, and read the book What Do You Do With A Problem? We all have lots of worries and Flamm will be there to help us out!

Our third grade buddies helped us brainstorm reasons why we love Memorial School. There are so many reasons! Mrs. Cyr and I got in the spirit, too. We must share a brain because we wrote the same thing without even talking to one another.

I hope that you all have a happy, safe, and relaxing vacation. Can't wait to see you next year!

Turkey Trot Food Drive

Hi Families!

Ms. Bannon and Mr. Peterson organize a food drive each year for the Burlington Food Pantry. They are asking for students to bring in one non-perishable food item that can be donated to local families in need this Thanksgiving season.

Please have students bring in items to school on or before Wednesday, November 23rd. The food items will be brought to the pantry after our early release day.

Thank you for thinking of others this year!

Voting in Kindergarten!

Today kindergarten students at Memorial had a chance to vote! The whole school was working toward filling up a stripe on the large American flag in the cafeteria with their STARbucks. When grade levels filled their stripe, they were able to decorate their lockers. Since we do not have lockers in kindergarten, Mr. Rosenblatt gave us a choice: decorate cubbies or decorate the hall with a mural. Kindergarten teachers decided that we would have a vote to decide which one to choose.

Students filled out a ballot, put their ballots in a box, and teachers were able to count the votes and announce a winner! Kindergarten students will be decorating papers to hang up on the insides of their cubbies on Wednesday. We will provide materials, but if students want to bring in anything extra, they may do so on Wednesday.

Kindergarten 177 also filled up Mr. Potato Head with compliments, so we have a whole class reward. We voted (again!) to watch a movie. We will watch a short movie during snack on Wednesday.

I hope you all have a nice day off tomorrow!

We had the best time at the Franklin Park Zoo today! The chilly temperatures this morning warmed up and we were able to see many animals and enjoy our day.

Here are the gorillas and their cute new baby who is just about one year old!

Bus Safety

Memorial School had our annual Bus Safety day today where students and teachers are reminded of what proper bus safety and protocol is.

Kindergarten heard from Officer Schipelliti in the cafeteria where he reinforced rules that ensure all students are safe on the bus. Big thanks to the Burlington Police Department for sending him out to make sure that all Burlington students are safe.

A little misty rain didn't stop us from practicing how to evacuate a bus! Mrs. Reekie and I helped students get off the back of the bus in a calm and safe way. Way to go Kindergarten!

Library Switch

Hi Families!

We had to make a switch to our schedule today. Instead of going to the library, we were able to meet our Third Grade Book Buddies! We are so excited to partner up with the Third Grade Teachers to make this happen. All students will have an older student buddy who we will be meeting with periodically throughout the year. We had so much fun today!

Because we met with our Buddies, we had to reschedule our library time to Monday. Students have the weekend to enjoy their books but please remember to put them in their backpacks for Monday!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

What's Up Wednesday?

Oh my! So much learning and fun has been going on the past week and a half of school.

Last week, we took a break from our math curriculum to play some math games and have some fun. We worked on writing our numbers in shaving cream and played some dice games. It was all fun and games until the fire alarm went off right in the middle of our math block! Ms. McMahon and I were so impressed with how all of our kids were able to listen and follow the teacher directions. We got outside in a quick and quiet manner, despite being covered in shaving cream.

On Friday, we learned about Christopher Columbus and what explorers do. After we went to library, we made some explorer goggles to explore our library books. We learned that explorers look for new places to discover. Here we are exploring our library books that we checked out.

Finally, a choice for filling up our star jar is choosing a show and share item to bring into class and share. We had two exciting show and shares the past week. Isabel brought a baby doll that was given to her by her grandmother and Calianna performed a magic show for us. After sharing, students are allowed to take three questions from their classmates. We loved seeing what Isabel and Calianna had to share!

Apple Picking!

We had SO much fun picking apples and pumpkins today at Parlee Farms. We were happy that the rain was able to hold off for us to enjoy our day. All children came home with a bag of apples as well as a pumpkin! We were able to see the vines that the pumpkins grow on, some yellow flowers, and even a couple of green pumpkins that still had to grow up into orange pumpkins! After we got all of our goods, we were able to feed some of the farm animals.

What a great way to wrap up our apple studies!

Library Time!

Memorial School is so lucky to have such an amazing library space for us to use. Every Friday, our class is able to visit Mrs. Myer upstairs to hear a story and check out books for us to take home. They are due back by the next Friday.

Kids really loved listening to a story about apple trees through the seasons last week!

Apple Picking Tomorrow!

Don't forget! We are planning to go apple picking tomorrow as long as the weather cooperates!

Please send your child to school in weather appropriate weather with a bagged lunch.

We will make a decision about going at 8AM and will post to the blog if we are postponing the trip.

Let's hope that the rain can hold off for us!

First Day and Open House

Hello Kindergarten Friends and Families!

We have been having so much fun in school! It's been so great to get to know your children and start building our classroom community.

A notice was sent home in your child's backpack folder about Open House today. Open house begins at 6:30 in our classroom, and I will be speaking to families about our Kindergarten curriculum. At 7, there will be a presentation in the cafeteria that will be important for parents to attend. I will speak about the curriculum again at 7:30. Open House concludes at 8.

We hope to see you tomorrow night at Open House!

August Already?!

I cannot believe that it is the middle of August and the first day of school is approaching fast. I hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and have been getting ready to get into the swing of a school routine. I know that I need to start mine!

I am so excited to meet everyone during our Kindergarten Orientation on September 8th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the school. My email is mfelton@bpsk12.org.

Here are some pictures of our classroom so far. It's a lot of work to get it ready for all of you on the first day!

I will add some more once everything has found a place in our room.

See you soon!
Ms. Felton
